Perform a Hot Water Tank Tune-Up

Maintain water heater efficiency and safety by flushing the tank to remove sediment buildup, inspecting the pressure relief valve, and checking for leaks.

Pro Tips
Perform this task annually to improve the efficiency of your water heater and extend its lifespan.
The anode rod prevents tank corrosion; replace it every 3-5 years or as needed.
If you live in an area with hard water, consider draining the tank more frequently (every 6 months) to prevent sediment buildup.
Steps
1Turn off the power/gas, and water supply
2Attach a hose to the drain valve
3Open the drain valve slowly
4Check the anode rod
5Turn on the water supply
6Let water flow for several minutes
7Close the drain valve
8Refill the tank
9Check for leaks
